People come first, therefore safety comes first
As an employer, we are obliged to ensure safe working conditions for our people. It all starts with a high degree of awareness on how we can prevent unsafe conditions. As a manufacturing company with around 8,500 employees, we are at a good level with a low Loss Time Injury Rate of 1.0. However, our target for 2028 is 0.7.
To improve awareness, we have intensified our focus on near miss reporting, and we have made it easy to report unsafe conditions through QR codes placed around the production facilities. In November 2023, we have launched a safety awareness campaign, as we want everyone to return home in the same condition as they went to work.
“The foundation for any successful business is a safe workplace. We continuously strive to improve our working environment and safety of all our employees. We achieve this by improving on behaviour, systems, and processes in our operating business units and include employees through near miss registrations and dialogue in our safety walks”, says Martin Kjærbo, COO at GPV.
Every month, near miss reports are investigated and discussed in a learning forum across the organisation with relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, we have made the information available on our Intranet to shed light on potential risks.
“It is important for us to learn from the incidents and take preventive actions to avoid similar things happening again. We have a “no blame” culture, where everyone can stop work if they see unsafe conditions. With the safety awareness campaign, we increase focus on safety and encourage everyone to take ownership for a safe working environment,” says Ville Pirilä, VP, Quality & HSE at GPV.
