Safety always comes first

We have successfully increased our near miss reporting across our organisation since the launch of our first Safety Awareness Campaign in November 2023. The number of near misses has positively affected our LTI (Lost Time Injury) level, resulting in a record low level of 0.59 LTIs per million working hours for the past twelve months.

With the launch of a new Machine Safety Campaign in September 2024, we aim to continue our focus on near miss reporting and reduce the number of incidents related to machine safety.

“We chose to focus on the topic of machine safety after thoroughly analysing LTI history data and recognising machine safety as one of the major risk areas. Machine safety is also critical by its nature, as the potential accidents may be severe and cause significant harm to people. With a specific focus on this topic, we strive to enhance awareness but also to foster proactive safety practices that prevent accidents and ensure the wellbeing of all our people,” says Ville Pirilä, Vice President, Quality & HSE at GPV.

Part of the campaign is also to promote best practices across our Operating Business Units (OBUs). By sharing best practices on registered near misses and the corrective actions, all OBUs learn from and are inspired by each other, ultimately laying the foundation for our safety culture where everyone takes responsibility on safety matters.

“Safety is not just a set of guidelines; it is a mindset that we must all adopt. This campaign is about more than just compliance – it is about creating a safe environment where everyone feels responsible for their own safety and the safety of their colleagues. By maintaining our high focus on near miss reporting and best practice sharing, we build a culture that puts safety first,” says Martin Kjærbo, COO at GPV.

The campaign covers all Operating Business Units and offices. Campaign material is available in all local languages to ensure everyone can be involved and aware of machine safety. Information is continuously shared on internal platforms and Intranet.
